Vacuum-Reflow ovens
Void-free soldering is a basic requirement in high-performance electronics. Life support devices, the control technology in aircraft industry, the driving assistance system in the automobile sector and power electronics in electric vehicles, all have one thing in common: they must run absolutely safely and error-free for many years. One condition for this approach is an almost voids-free solder join. Vacuum reflow process is a reliable way to reduce voids in the solder joints to a minimum.

FAQ
What are the advantages of the vacuum process?
- The vacuum process is the most reliable process for reducing voids in the solder joint. Voids can be partially reduced by modifying the solder profile and using nitrogen, but we will not achieve the same results as when using a vacuum. By modifying the profile, we can get to the edge of the paste processing window. The vacuum process thus gives us more flexibility in setting the soldering process.
Is vacuum (vacuum module) “only” about adding this process to the peak zone?
- No, it is not. A vacuum oven is a mechanically complex device. In addition to the vacuum module itself, it has many other mechanical, electrical and electronic elements that are necessary for operation.
- SMT was the first to come to the market with an inline vacuum oven in 2009, so thanks to its many years of know-how, SMT can offer a complete and reliable solution.
Is a vacuum oven more maintenance intensive than a standard reflow oven?
- Yes. A vacuum oven generally requires more attention than a standard reflow oven. But with SMT, maintenance is guaranteed to be less frequent and significantly easier than the competition thanks to the automatic lifting of the chamber lid.
